Kirkland ranks No. 3 among the 50 best places to live in the United States, according to Money magazine’s annual list for 2022.
Money ranked cities with at least 20,000 people, and weighed numerous factors, including cost of living, diversity, economic opportunity, education, fun and amenities, health and safety, the housing market, income and personal finance, and quality of life.
“It’s an honor that Kirkland has been recognized nationally for something that we all know to be true: Kirkland is such an amazing place to live,” Deputy Mayor Jay Arnold said in a post on the City’s website. “Thank you to our wonderful residents and businesses who together contribute to Kirkland’s vibrant and belonging community.”
Money described Kirkland as “easy on the eyes” for its lakefront location and scenery and noted locals’ description of the city as “a family-friendly, community-focused town with great schools and employment opportunities.”
Money also noted the high rents and housing costs, “but there are enough high-paying jobs in the region that the median household income — just under $130,000 — is well above average, too.”
Ranking ahead of Kirkland on the list were Atlanta, No. 1, followed by Tempe, Arizona. The only other Washington city on the list was Camas, No. 32. One Oregon city, Hillsboro, made the list at No. 23. Boise, Idaho, was No. 11.
